Options to defer membership
Parental Leave, Sick Leave, Carers Leave
Previously covered by ‘Non-Practising’ membership, members who are taking parental leave, long-term sick leave or long-term carers leave may apply to have their membership deferred. To be eligible, you must not be working during the period of leave and you may be required to provide documentation regarding your reason for taking leave.
If granted, membership is deferred for a specified period. During this period, post nominals and any certifications held are considered inactive and may not be used. The initial period of deferment may be extended. Members who are granted a deferment may be eligible for partial exemption of CPD based on pro rata calculations for the calendar years affected. All members applying for deferment should read the rules regarding readmission to membership.
On readmission to full membership, the period of membership that was deferred in any membership year will be applied to the new membership year as long as the member is reinstated within a 12 month period. If the deferment is longer than 12 months, the credit is waived and the member will be invoiced for the pro rata amount for the remainder of the membership year in which they are being reinstated.
Transfer to parental leave from 1 August 2019 with reinstatement on 31 March 2020 provides a membership credit of five months for the 2019 membership year. On reinstatement, the member will be invoiced for four months membership for 2020 (pro rata membership from 1 April 2020 less the five months credit).
Transfer to parental leave on 1 August 2019 with reinstatement on 31 October 2020. On reinstatement, the member will be invoiced for two months for the 2020 membership year.
Requests to defer membership should be sent to email@example.com.
Members who are continuing to work but are experiencing financial hardship may apply for a concession on their membership fees or apply for a payment plan. Applications will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Any concession granted on fees does not remove obligations to complete CPD points or mandatory requirements.
